Self-Care check in

2020 so far has been A LOT, so for this week, let’s talk about self-care. With everything that is happening currently in the world, we still need to check in with our selves, even though that is hard to do at the moment. The main reason being that this is not a temporary situation. The stronger we are mind, body, and soul, the harder and longer we can fight and do what is needed to protest for Black Lives Matter, the global pandemic of COVID-19, and our regular everyday stresses.

With self-care, we all know it is something that we need to make time for and should do. But then the excuses start coming, and we don’t think twice – myself included.

“I’m too busy.”

“There isn’t enough time in a day.”

“I will do it tomorrow.”

Well, it’s time for a wakeup call. Stop ignoring your wellbeing. Know your worth. You are essential.

If you need to cry, cry. If you need to let out a yell, do it. Please feel the emotions and recognize them and the effects they have on your body and mental health.

Some self-care ideas:

  • Reading a good book.
  • Play a favorite song up loud (my current go-to is “Rainbow” by Sia).
  • Take a day away from social media.
  • Take a day off from the news.
  • Take a warm bath with essential oils.
  • Meditate.
  • Take a nap.
  • Breath exercises.

I want you to remember. It is not selfish taking time to rest and get back into the right mind frame to keep fighting for a better future.
